The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters is a 3-chapter immersive experience by Leeza Pritychenko that investigates the role of nightmares in our daily existence, and the symbolism and meanings attached that can be found across different cultures and disciplines. These elements are explored through the lens of collected experiences gathered during the development phase, cultural studies, neuroscience and mental health studies.
Focusing on three most common nightmare scenarios — falling, being chased, and drowning — the project proposes a subversion of the idea of nightmares as something negative to being able to see them as messages from our subconscious, to be deciphered with the potential to positively transform our waking lives.
