Our founder and producer, Siuli Ko started curating a new thematic trilogy of Schemerlicht Festival in 2024 in Nijmegen, an outdoor new media art route in Goffertpark. Her curation marked a new chapter in the festival’s evolution, from the tangible elements of water, air, and earth to the intangible realms of space, time, and consciousness. The 2024 edition, Ruimte Vaarders, invited visitors to see the world not as fixed, but as fluid, full of hidden layers and shifting truths.
Inspired by the idea of heterotopias, as described by Michel Foucault, the festival creates a space outside the ordinary, where alternative perspectives can emerge. Through immersive art, speculative storytelling, and philosophical play, Schemerlicht encourages us to reflect on our relationship to the world around us, not from the center, but as part of a vast, interconnected whole.
Curated by Siuli Ko, the 2024 edition explored the physical, ecological, and cognitive dimensions of space, and featured works by amongst others: Nicky Assmann, Lennart Lahuis, Wes Broersen and Marshmallow Laser Feast.
The 2025 edition looks at Time, and highlights ways to break out of our short-termism and become better ancestors, and re-kindle our connection with natural time rhythms.
