Next Space Rebels launches us into a world where DIY culture, hacker ingenuity, and a dose of space activism collide. Over five years in the making, this hybrid art game by digital artist Floris Kaayk invites players to join a fictional hacker collective with a bold mission: design, build, and launch rockets to claim an independent place in orbit — and with it, the possibility of a freer internet.
What begins as the tinkering of a naive rocket hobbyist evolves into the determined work of a space activist, questioning who truly owns the skies and the networks we depend on. Drawing inspiration from amateur rocket builders, gaming communities, and the rebellious spirit of hackers, Kaayk crafts a speculative storytelling experience that blends interactive play with live-action video performances by Jade Olieberg, Thomas Dudkiewicz, and Vanja Rukavina.
Next Space Rebels is part game, part call to action, a reminder that space, like the internet, should belong to everyone. Released in collaboration with publisher Humble Games, it is both an act of play and an act of resistance.
