Status: In Development
Extended Spaces is a storytelling platform that transforms public space into a canvas for digital heritage. Using augmented reality, geospatial tools, and mobile technology, the project invites cultural institutions to bring untold stories – of music, rebellion, migration, and identity – into the streets. Each participating city contributes its own narratives, connecting local memory to a shared, transnational theme: lost spaces and forgotten voices.
What began as Lost Hood, an AR-installation by artist Abner Preis during a residency at the Amsterdam Museum, has evolved into a growing, open-source ecosystem. Through collaborations with museums across Europe, Extended Spaces offers a modular tool for curators, artists, and educators to create and share immersive, site-specific experiences beyond traditional exhibition walls.
By making immersive media accessible and repeatable, Extended Spaces challenges how we engage with heritage and who gets to tell those stories. It’s not just about recovering what’s been lost; it’s about reimagining how we relate to the city, to each other, and to the future of culture.
